about

So here’s a story you probably don’t know about the band unless you are one of our close buds:
In early 2013 I got an email from this dude that found my old defunct myspace page and wanted me to come to North Korea to play some shows?? Obviously I thought it was spam or a malware attack at first but a quick online search showed the guy was a legit promoter in China and North Korea named Gim Yi . I eventually messaged back saying I wasn’t doing that stuff anymore but had a new band named OCTOPUS REX. Gim Yi loved the Rex! Before I knew it, plane tickets had been bought and while we thought it might be an absurd trap to take some Texas boys hostage, we also thought… “fuck it.”
If you recall, this wasn’t a great time for US-North Korea relations. BUT, we did see Dennis Rodman!!! Admittedly we were pretty far away as he was coming out of a nail salon, but hey, how many Koreans have the same height, skin tone, wild hair and tattoos as Dennis Rodman!
Anywho, the tour was okay. We played a couple decent shows but mostly run-down cafeterias. Honestly it was kinda weird. We didn’t make much money but we didn’t spend much either. And before we knew it, we were on a plane back to the us-of-a. Never even met that Yi fellow.
Unfortunately the law of the land was very strict about taking pictures and recordings of any kind but we did manage to capture one of the shows on some old mini-disc thingy which was later confiscated. We fought hard to try and get those recordings and fiiiiinally….. Here it is!! Flubbed notes, dropped sticks, out of pitch vocals, cuts, scrapes, bruises and all! Included are some early takes from our current ep, some originals we haven’t recorded yet, the singles from our debut 7” and a few covers we were doing at the time… even the sound check of Mr Moustache haha. We hope you enjoy these tracks and while we don’t want to get too political or anything just remember peace and music can conquer all (even if the music is about destruction and zombies).
